corey arnold:

- commercial fisherman
- photographer
- owns a salmon boat where he works for a couple of months every year
- does msotly artistic photography
- also gets commisioned for commercial work, but doesn’t chase it down
- he was just shooting what he wanted to shoot, and putting it up on his website
- never marketed or promoted himself, just did what he wanted
- put out a books of his photos
- work with discovery channel on the deadliest catch (but was working the boats first)
- super nice dude
annie sperling:

- production design from los angeles
- worked a lot with david la chappelle
- early on worked with at risk youth doing murals
- lots of running around finding props, and the right materials
- very detailed and elaborate setups

- multi disciplinary duo
- they both fell into it, lied about their skills and learnt on the job with youtube or googling tutorials
- model yourselves on the people who succeed
- techincal ability should not dictate execution
- find the right people for the job
- give credit where credit is due
- one third of your work shold be fun shit that you want to do
- lots of skate decks designed for élan
- even when the director of élan said no, they just sent them anyway
reg mombassa:

- wanted to be a landscape artist
- shows lots of early paintings, of hosues and landscapes
- his graphic art came from album art and gig posters
- was in mental as anything and did gig art for them
- lots of tshirts, yardage designs and posters for mambo
- artists ae pathetic
- he went through a new history of the universe and everything

- as most of the works are posters, when hung in a gallery they don’t get framed, instead they paint murals to frame the works in groups

- your ideas don’t need to be great, they just need to change the world
- was working in sculpture at art school

- didn’t do anything with type, or even like it till about five years ago
- twenty first was typeface themed
- loves type out in the world
- fell in love with real type – wood cut, letter press typefaces
- studied at cofa

- got famous through blog for a video of drawing write here right now all over her skin
- invited to speak at a german type conference about australian type
- she draws type, does not make fonts

michael leon:

- runs stacks skate company
- recent tour of the west coast, with one night shows in major cities on the trip
- los angeles based
- has a strong artistic practice too
- loads of skate deck graphics
- worked on new deal skate company
- did a fine art degree, not a graphic deisgn degree
- worked for girl skateboards for six years
- made stuntwood – a doco about the science behind skateboarding
- radical deck – three dee type in a grid – amazing

- make videos they work (at getting points/pitches across)

fuel vfx:

- lots of movies and tvc’s
- thor, v, iron man, captain america, that wrigleys add with the little dudes
- boring, technical presentation that gave little insight to the industry
- just showed their eyecandy in between lots of text slides fail
- be persistent
- pitched for thor, they said no
- repitched for thor titles, no one had pitched for
- got titles, and then some of the movie, and then captain america
