TOA x QWUX
reblogged from qwux
That’s right. I’m on time this week! We’ve got someone special for the quickfire this week, Sydney’s own QWUX. A man dedicated and passionate about all things art, illustration and design, QWUX has cemented his place in the Australian scene as a curator, publisher and exhibiting artist. His passion for helping others get their work out to the masses is second to none. A beautiful man with a fantastic beard. Enjoy.
What do you do?
I do lots of things, my favourite things to do are illustration, graphic design, curating rad art shows and publishing art books and zines.
Why do you do it?
Its the only thing i want to do! i had a whole bunch of jobs before taking a step back and deciding to devote my life to creative endeavours. Nothing else was fulfilling enough, yes they may have paid better, but if i didn’t have a creative output, what was the point. my new motto is - For Love, Not Money, and by new, i mean i have been using it for a long time, but only just realised that it applies to a broader spectrum of what i want to do.
What (if anything) helps your process?
The internet is probably the best thing for my process. Being able to access literally millions of inspirational artworks, photographs, songs and videos from literally anywhere can really help me get over creative block. I also need hefty doses of Blue V, and music piped through large headphones.
What is your favorite condiment?
If i have to pick just one, it would be Bulldog Sauce. for those who haven’t had it, think of it as the best bbq sauce, but on steroids, and from Japan.
You have a 90 minute mixtape to record your favorite audio on and then listen to..what is on that tape?
i am not ashamed to say that at least a third of that mix is blink-182. they have been my fave band since i was 10 or so. Also on the tape will be a couple of postal service songs, Such Great Heights for sure, and then the rest of the mix will be a bunch of songs that sound good through headphones. Think of it as a chill out mix, with blink songs spattered through it.
What is your essential “must save from a house fire” item?
If i am sure my girlfriend is not in the house, then it would be my camera collection. We have over 20 cameras, ranging from turn box brownies and land cameras right up to dslrs.
So, I’m coming to visit..do we eat or get drunk?
Why not both? i wish australia had places that do nomihodae. we would eat Ramen, and lots of it, mixed with my current favourite beverage - Dark and Stormy’s.
To be honest, it would happen on my balcony. Im no pro, but after years of practice i cook a mean ramen (as long as i can find the right noodles) and our place has a view over blackwattle bay that beats any cafe around here.
Please sum up your career to this point in one word.
